Repeat Prescriptions
This is where you can request further supplies of a medication without needing to see the doctor.
Ordering
You can request medications that are on your repeat record by contacting the surgery by e-mail, telephone, fax, post or by leaving a note in the box in the conservatory. If medications are in stock, they will usually be dispensed the same day by 4pm if ordered before 10am. Please order repeat prescriptions at least 72 hours before you run out of your medication. If you are taking a special medication that needs to be ordered in, please allow a week for us to do this.
Payment
The charge for most medications for one month's supply is currently £5, payable to the Professor Charles Saint Medical Trust. It would be appreciated if payment could be made when you collect your medication by enclosing a cheque or cash in the envelope provided. Alternatively you may prefer to pay in advance when you request your medication. Some people choose to pay the full price for the medications in order to help the Medical Trust. If you would like to do this, please let us know.
Exceptions
The oral contraceptive pill is usually packaged in supplies of 3 months. This means that the cost is 3x the monthly charge, £15 at present. Smoking cessation medications may be ordered on repeat prescription but attract the full price as they are not subsidised by the Fund. Antibiotics are not usually issued on repeat prescription because they are often used to treat acute infections which may not be caused by the same organism if the symptoms recur. If you feel that you need antibiotics, please arrange an appointment with the doctor.
Some medications such as diazepam and temazepam are addictive. They are not normally provided on repeat prescription and require regular review by your doctor. Long term use of these medications is not recommended. Your doctor can help you to reduce your use of these medications.
